Brown sugar: packed and unpacked cups to grams

Match the recipe’s packing instruction

If a recipe asks for packed brown sugar, fill and press it into the cup before leveling. If it asks for a loose or unpacked measure, do not press it down. A recipe with an explicit gram weight gives you a more direct instruction than a volume conversion.

Avoid swapping a packed value for a loose value

The cup holds the same volume in either case, but packing changes the amount of sugar within that volume. Scaling the recipe does not remove this difference; choose the method first, then scale.
