US, metric, label and imperial cup sizes
Choose the cup and spoon convention your recipe uses before converting an ingredient to grams.
Four cups with four volumes
US customary: 236.588236mL. Metric: 250mL. US nutrition-label cup: 240mL. Imperial: 284.130625mL. Modern British recipes often specify grams or metric measures; choose the convention stated by the recipe rather than assuming every British cup is imperial.
Spoons need their own choice
A US tablespoon is about 14.8mL and a US teaspoon about 4.9mL. Metric spoons use 15mL and 5mL. Australian tablespoons use 20mL while teaspoons use 5mL. Our calculator lets you select cup and spoon sizes independently.
Weight is ingredient specific
The volume change alone does not provide a universal grams-per-cup value. Use a matching food measurement. When converting a manufacturer serving, retain its label convention; US nutrition labels use a 240mL cup.
